Prem kept calling the wick a break
Prem arrived able to attend Tuesdays only if he left his office by 17:40, and he missed the Thursday of evening three because a late meeting held him. The sheet for that evening — a false-break drill on a single index session — was kept in his folder. The next Tuesday began with ten minutes on that sheet before the room moved on. He said later that ten minutes was enough to see the mark and not enough to feel he had sat the evening. The seat stayed his. The understanding did not fully transfer, and he redrew the pattern at home before evening five.
His earlier habit was to treat the first print through a high as the break, then to feel annoyed when the candle closed back inside. Evening three, even caught up from the margin, put the close in the sentence. By evening five his margin note read: wait for the close back inside, or for the retest, and say which one before the open. Kanya’s comment in the folder is short: “The arrow is thinner. The sentence is finally a print.”
He still finds the catch-up rude in its brevity. That is a fair complaint about missing a Thursday. The room holds the paper. A missed evening stays missed.
